As the world marks World Glaucoma Week (WGW) from 8th – 14th March, De- Lens Ophthalmics, Family Eye and Vision Care Centre is adding her voice to commemorate this epic event. It is a period to create awareness and sensitize the general public about the “Silent Thief of Sight” called Glaucoma.
A Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that cause damage to the optic nerve, which serves as a channel for visual signals/information from the eyes to the brain. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness, but with early detection and treatment, the damage may get limited and sight may be saved.
We join the world to campaign against the scourge caused by glaucoma and encourage the general public to go and get tested. GO GREEN = Go and Get Tested.
As part of our contribution to this year’s event, we are throwing our doors open for FREE Glaucoma Screening. We are also taking time to create awareness using media houses both print and electronic as well as talk shows to educate and enlighten the general public on glaucoma.
Most spectacular about this year’s event is the formal inauguration of De-Lens Ophthalmics Glaucoma Support Group, the first of its kind in the whole of Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
The event will take place on 14th March 2020 at our Gudu branch at 9.00 am. Part of the progammes for the inauguration includes lectures on glaucoma, networking and sharing of experiences on the disease glaucoma.
Expected to grace the occasion includes not less than 8 media houses and eyecare ambassadors.
